Pioneer XDJ-RX2 vs XDJ-RX3: is it worth paying more?
Last updated: September 25, 2026
The Pioneer XDJ-RX3 is a more modern and capable all-in-one system than the XDJ-RX2. Whether it is the better buy is a different question.
The biggest change is the screen: the RX2 has a 7-inch touchscreen, while the RX3 moves to 10.1 inches with more information on view and much more modern browsing. Touch Preview, Color On Jog Display, adjustable jog resistance through Jog Feeling Adjust and a wider effects section add to the upgrade.
The fundamentals remain close. Both are 2-channel standalone systems with a familiar Pioneer DJ layout and practically everything you need to DJ without a computer. Our workshop experience with the RX2 has been particularly good: solid faders, jogs that age well and few major problems beyond normal wear to components such as Play/Cue switches. Our experience with the RX3 has also been positive.
Using the September 2026 price references, approximately €1,500 for an RX2 and €1,800 to €1,900 for an RX3, we would choose the RX2 for value.
The RX3 is the better machine. The RX2 is our better buy.
Sounds Market Score
Pioneer XDJ-RX2: 8.8/10
One of the Pioneer DJ all-in-ones that has aged best. It is robust, reliable and still well equipped, with a workflow closely aligned with the classic Pioneer DJ approach. At around €1,500 used in this comparison, it remains one of our favourite options in its category.
Pioneer XDJ-RX3: 9.2/10
A clearly more modern evolution. The 10.1-inch screen, Touch Preview, Color On Jog Display, Jog Feeling Adjust and broader effects section improve the experience without compromising solid construction. It is the more capable machine, although we do not think every DJ needs to spend the extra €300 to €400.

The screen makes the biggest difference
The RX2's 7-inch touchscreen remains perfectly usable for browsing your rekordbox library, selecting tracks, viewing waveforms and accessing functions. The RX3 expands that to 10.1 inches, shows more information at once and adds a much more modern interface, including 3Band Waveform.
Touch Preview is particularly useful. From the browser, you can touch a point in a track's waveform and listen through your headphones without first loading the track into a deck. When looking for the next tune, you can quickly check several tracks or different sections before choosing one.
This brings browsing closer to the experience of players such as the CDJ-3000. The improvement is about what you can do with the screen as well as its size, and it is probably the change you will notice most during a set.
Returning to 7 inches after using the RX3 is noticeable. Even so, the larger display does not automatically make the RX2 outdated: it still handles ordinary track selection and mixing very well.
Jogs: Jog Feeling Adjust on the RX3
Both generations use relatively compact jogs. The RX3 adds Jog Feeling Adjust, allowing you to set a lighter or heavier resistance to suit your preference. Color On Jog Display also puts visual information in the centre of each jog.
Neither feature would be a strong enough reason on its own for us to replace an RX2. Our workshop experience with the RX2's jogs has been especially good: bearing problems or mechanisms needing substantial adjustment have been rare, even on heavily used units.
More effects on the XDJ-RX3
The RX2 offers 4 Sound Color FX and 8 Beat FX. The RX3 increases this to 6 Sound Color FX and 14 Beat FX, and adds Release FX for more creative options directly on the system.
That is a real advantage if effects are central to your sets. If your style focuses on track selection, EQ, Filter and familiar effects such as Echo or Reverb, we think the RX2 already offers more than enough. The extra effects should not carry the same weight for every buyer.
What actually changes during a set?
The biggest practical gain comes when finding and preparing the next track. The RX3 makes that process more convenient through its screen and Touch Preview, with an interface drawing on features from the CDJ-3000 generation.
The mixing routine remains familiar: prepare your music in rekordbox, connect a USB drive, load both decks and work with a recognisable layout. Anyone comfortable on an RX2 can adapt to an RX3 almost immediately. It feels more modern without requiring a different way of DJing.
Build quality
This is one of the RX2's strongest qualities. After working on many units, our overall experience is excellent. The faders are good, the jogs are robust and we have not identified a major structural weakness that makes the system age badly.
Play/Cue buttons and other switches can need replacement over the years. That is the normal wear we expect from DJ equipment used intensively. Our experience with the RX3's construction has also been positive so far.
The Sounds Market workshop view
A used RX2 generally gives us confidence when it arrives at the workshop. We still inspect every control: Play/Cue, faders, buttons and other components can show wear depending on use. However, we have not identified a widespread major fault that gives us particular concern about the model.
The jogs illustrate this well. Even units used for a long time have rarely needed substantial mechanical adjustment in our experience.
The RX3 is a newer generation, so its track record is shorter. Our experience has nevertheless been positive, and we have not found a major recurring problem that would make us advise against it. We consider both excellent options for reliability.
Used-market prices
Approximate references from September 2026:
- XDJ-RX2: around €1,500.
- XDJ-RX3: around €1,800 to €1,900.
These are indicative used prices and can vary with condition, included accessories and market changes. The resulting €300 to €400 gap is central to our recommendation.
Is the XDJ-RX3 worth the extra money?
Not necessarily, in our view. The RX3 is the better-equipped system, which helps explain its higher score. But adding price to the decision changes our preference.
A well-kept RX2 at around €1,500 still offers an excellent experience. We do not see the additional €300 to €400 as essential for most users.
We would pay it if the screen and Touch Preview mattered a great deal, if we used effects frequently, or if we specifically wanted a newer interface. For a good Pioneer DJ all-in-one at home with maximum value for money, we would choose the RX2.
In our opinion, the step from the XDJ-RR to the RX2 is substantially more significant than the subsequent step from the RX2 to the RX3.

What other comparisons often miss
- The better machine is not always the better buy. With the €300 to €400 gap used here, we favour the RX2 for value.
- Browsing has the greatest everyday impact. The move to 10.1 inches and Touch Preview matters more to our decision than jog displays or adjustable resistance.
- Condition still matters. A well-maintained RX2 has plenty of life left, backed by our particularly positive experience with its faders and jogs.

Once price is included, we still consider the RX2 a particularly attractive buy.
How do the RX2 and RX3 screens differ?

The RX3 shows more information, offers much more modern browsing and includes functions such as Touch Preview.

Yes. Touch Preview lets you touch a track's waveform in the browser and listen to that part through your headphones without first loading it into a deck.
The XDJ-RX2 does not have this feature.
Is the XDJ-RX2 still worth buying in 2026?
Yes. We still consider it one of the most appealing used Pioneer DJ all-in-ones for its combination of features, construction, reliability and price.
Does the XDJ-RX3 have better jogs?
The main difference is Jog Feeling Adjust, which lets you change jog resistance. The RX3 also has Color On Jog Display.
We do not think these features automatically make its jogs dramatically better than those on the RX2.
Which system has more effects?
The XDJ-RX3 has 6 Sound Color FX and 14 Beat FX, compared with 4 Sound Color FX and 8 Beat FX on the RX2.
Which is more reliable?
Our experience with both is very positive. The RX2 also benefits from having been on the market longer and having demonstrated excellent durability.

Mainly normal wear. On units with many hours of use, components such as Play/Cue switches can need replacement. We have not identified a particularly concerning structural fault in the model.
Is an RX3 worth another €300 to €400?
It can be if you particularly value the 10.1-inch screen, Touch Preview, modern browsing and extra effects.
If value for money comes first, we would save the difference and buy a well-kept RX2.
Which would we buy?
At the September 2026 reference prices, the XDJ-RX2 for value.
The RX3 is the better machine and earns the higher score, but we think an RX2 around €1,500 offers more value than an RX3 around €1,800 to €1,900.
Thinking about upgrading your equipment?
If you own an XDJ-RX2, XDJ-RX3 or other DJ equipment, you can sell it directly to Sounds Market or put it towards your next purchase.
Verdict: XDJ-RX2 or XDJ-RX3?
The XDJ-RX3 is the more advanced system. Its 10.1-inch touchscreen is a substantial improvement, and Touch Preview makes finding and checking the next track more convenient. Color On Jog Display, Jog Feeling Adjust and the expanded effects section complete the upgrade. That is reflected in our scores: 9.2/10 for the RX3 and 8.8/10 for the RX2.
Our buying decision still favours the RX2 at the prices compared here. It is exceptionally well built, its jogs have aged very well in our workshop experience, and the faults we see usually reflect years of normal use. The core mixing experience remains excellent.
With the September 2026 references of around €1,500 for an RX2 and €1,800 to €1,900 for an RX3, we would save the €300 to €400 difference. Pay the extra if you specifically want the larger screen, Touch Preview and additional controls and effects. Otherwise, a well-maintained RX2 remains one of our favourite used Pioneer DJ all-in-ones.
