Cello with case, approx. 100 years old Very beautiful 4/4 cello with a warm, round sound and powerful bass from Wilhelm Herwig (Markneukirchen between 1890 and 1930). Overhauled and completely checked by a well-known violin maker in Basel in March 2024: instrument was re-strung, the bow was re-strung, the fingerboard was straightened, the bridge was straightened, the varnish was repaired. The owner and seller (amateur musician) had played the cello since 1962. He has stopped playing and would like the instrument to be in good hands. They are envied and copied by other manufacturers, but no matter how hard they have tried, no one has come close to matching them. Some have even gone so far as to put facsimile labels of well-known French and Italian manufacturers on the instruments and sell them at greatly inflated prices. Even one of our antique violins received a certificate of authenticity from a well-known expert at the beginning of the 20th century. 19th Century Italian Violin with Insurance Appraisal for $26,000.00! Because of this, each of the antique violins, violas, cellos and basses now has a series of markings inside and out to deter copyists. With use and performance, fine antique stringed instruments develop the patina of time over decades and centuries that master violinists have attempted to emulate, even as late as the late 17th century.
