DIRECTIONAL PATTERN The large-diaphragm capsule of the TLM 49 provides a cardioid directional characteristic, with some tendency to supercardioid, due to the special construction of the capsule. Following the example of the M 49, the high frequencies are more directive. The diameter of the capsule is 34 mm. The front of the micro, is closed. It is marked by the red Neumann logo, and is designed for frontal use. ACOUSTIC CHARACTERISTICS The TLM 49 uses the famous K47 capsule, also used in the M 49 and U 47 microphones. The capsule has a linear frequency response, right down to the high-mids. Above 2 kHz, there is a presence boost of about 3 dB. The capsule is broken. It is covered by a large grille, acoustically very open, and therefore neutral as far as sound is concerned. ELECTRONICS The letters TLM, are the standard for "transformerless microphone". With this technology, the typical transformer output is replaced by an electronic circuit.
