The first piano produced by the brand was sold in New York for about 500 dollars, today it is exhibited in the museum of Seesen, Germany. From that moment on, Hernry and his sons began to develop what we understand today as a modern piano. Over the next 40 years, more than half of the 125 that the company owns today were developed, many of them based on cutting-edge scientific research on acoustic theory such as that of physicist Hermann Von Helmholtz. From this work began to emerge the spectacular designs that began to receive national recognition almost immediately. In 1867 the company secured international recognition with the Grand Gold Medal of Honor award in Paris for manufacturing and engineering excellence.

Steinway and Sons has several models of both upright and grand pianos and they are classified by letters depending on their size.
